Introduction
The School of Ethnology and Sociology, founded in 2007, locates at the northern campus of the Inner Mongolia University. There are three departments in the school and each of them provides a major: the Department of Ethnology, the Department of Sociology, and the Department of Social Work. The discipline of Ethnology has a first-level PhD program and an authorized MA program of Ethnology while the discipline of Sociology has a MA program of Ethnosociology. Moreover, the school has started enrolling graduates with Master of Social Work (MSW) since 2015.
Currently, the school has 40 staffs. In addition to 6 administrative staffs, there are 34 academic professionals, who are composed of 7 professors, 12 associate professors, and 15 lecturers/assistant professors. 32 staffs of the faculty possess doctor's degree and 1 of them is pursuing her PhD now, which, constitutes 94.15% of the academic staffs in total. Meanwhile, 25 faculties of the school graduated from domestic universities (15 of them graduated from other universities than IMU) while 10 of them graduated from foreign universities. In addition, 23 teachers have the experience of studying abroad or oversea exchange.
Our school now has 446 undergraduate, 200graduates (89of them are specialized masters), 61 doctoral and 9 international students. Besides.
In addition to the departments, the school also comprises the Training and Research Base for Social Workers in Inner Mongolia, the Theory Research Center of Community Construction in Hohhot, the Laboratory of Visual Anthropology, the Laboratory of Social Work (in collaboration with IMAR), the Laboratory of Ethnopsychology, and a few practical teaching bases. The school also possesses a Nationality Museum (Educational Base of Patriotism in Inner Mongolia) and a reference room holding 8,000 books.
The discipline of ethnology in our school has been labeled as the Brand Discipline of lnner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and the class of ecological anthropology is recognized as the model curriculum of IMAR. Based on these advantages, two university-level Excellent Teaching Teams are built. The school also builds cooperative relationships with the University of Cambridge, National University of Mongolia, Peking University, Xiamen University, Lanzhou University, and Minzu University of China.
