THE NATIONALITY MUSEUMG
The Nationality Museum on the northern campus of Inner Mongolia University was completed and opened to the public in August 2004. And it has been the Key Construction Institute of “211 Engineering" Project, "National Basic Ability Construction Project of Western and Central China", “Double Top-Ranking Construction", is the member of “National
League of Museum Education in Universities”, as well as the“Demonstration Base of Patriotic Education" in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Due to needs of discipline construction and Museum functions improvement, the museum has subordinated to School of Ethnology and Sociology from Nov. 2014.
With a view to “collecting, preserving and displaying the excellent material cultural heritage of the Mongols and serving the university's teaching and scientific research”, it reflects the history and culture of the ethnic minorities in Inner Mongolia from various angles and in numerous aspects. The museum now has a collection of over 6000 objects,and its exhibits cover such numerous fields as politics, economy, society, culture, arts and religion of the Mongols, therefore are highly valuable in terms of scientific research,teaching and artistic appreciation.
The Nationality Museum of Inner Mongolia University is composed of 4 exhibition halls: “Love of Prairie”, "Ode to the Horseback", Traditional Teaching Tools Exhibition Hall and the Temporary Exhibition Hall.
The exhibition hall on the 1st floor is entitled "Love of Prairie". Here on display are the large producer goods and articles of daily use with the traditional yurt and ox cart as the main part, representing the actual scene of the production and daily life of the herdsman's family.
Entitled “Ode to the Horseback”, the exhibition hall on the 2nd floor is the main part of this museum, and is composed of 8 sections: Preserved Heritage of the Ancestors,Saddle and Horse Adornments, Producer Goods, Articles of Daily Use, Garments and Adornments, Culture and Recreation, Medical Care and Health as well as Religious Culture. Of the Golden Plate Carved with Imperial Edict in Phagspa Mongolian is the treasure of Nationality Museum, Inner Mongolia University, the only one golden plate carved in Phagspa Mongolian found so far.
The 3nd floor is composed of the Traditional Teaching Tools Exhibition Hall and the Temporary Exhibition Hall. In support of the teaching and research in history at this university, the Traditional Teaching Tools Exhibition Hall mainly displays the important historical relics of old camera, communication equipment, typewriter, etc. The “Expedient Exhibition Hall” contracts for the various kinds of temporary expos inside and outside of the university.
With the tenet of devote to university teaching and academic research, the Nationality Museum has been open to the society on a free basis all the year round and serving as a window for the public to learn of the history and culture of the ethnic minorities in Inner Mongolia Ever since its establishment.
