Sociology

The major of Sociology was once subordinated to the school of Public Administration. From June 2007 onward, the Department of Sociology was established, together with the school of Ethnology and Sociology. Nowadays, in addition to the undergraduate degree, the department provides one double-major degree in social administration and one master degree in ethnosociology.

Based on research and teaching, academic staffs in the department evolve a variety of social surveys and researches in order to enhance student’s ability of theoretical thinking and social practice. Our students are highly recognized by the society because their employment rate and enrollment rate are top-ranked among the schools of the university.

The departmental faculty is composed of 10 cademic staffs, including 2 professor,3  associate professors, and 5 lecturers, whom all have doctor's degree. Meanwhile, they all graduated from the most influential universities all over the world, such as the University of Essex (U.K.), the University of Shimane (Japan), Peking University (China),Renmin University of China, Wuhan University (China), and Lanzhou University(China).

The department has participated in the national Marxist Theory Research and Development Project and provides one of the “classic classes" under the framework of the project nowadays Relied on the advantages of academic research and teaching, the department also develops a long-term cooperation with the Civil Administration Department and the Poverty Alleviation

Office of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The Research Center for Poverty Alleviation in Inner Mongolia is currently under construction. The department also participated in the 11th five-year development program of the Hohhot Municipal Government and provides consulting service to the local government in order the enhance their ability of scientific and rational policy making. In this vein, the department chaired a variety of projects, such as the Research on the Development Model of Community in Hohhot and the Research on the Factors of the Allocation of Subsistence Allowances Funds.
